Best Websites on Ukraine
This page highlights those sites that really provide those nuggets of useful information or go the extra distance to set up a service that is clearly better than the rest. Admittedly, it is a bit difficult to do this. For instance, one forum may be good for expats while another is good for travellers. Regardless, this a way to draw attention to best sites out there on the web.
I will first have a top-ten list (in no specific order) roughly mapping out the ten sites that I think really are essential, but I will also have separate categories where I will identify one to three sites of particular noteworthiness. Obviously, this website is already trying to sort out the good from the bad, but with so many pages it is sometimes interesting (if not valuable) to reduce things a bit further. I would rarely expect a person to be able to look through all the links on this website, so think of it more as an abridged or condensed version. Take a look at the sites mentioned. If they look useful, then dig a bit further.
General Links
‘Best of’ stories are fairly popular in Ukraine. Here are a few sites that identify ‘best of’ categories.
ukraine-today.com
Ukraine Today under the entertainment section has a ‘best of Kyiv’ page that comes from the Kyiv Post. Best gaspacho, best live music bar, and best dive bar are some of the categories.
bestofukraine.com/index.html
Best of Ukriaine has a list of categories on its homepage. Best beer, best beaches, best live music, best parks are just some of the categories. It is fun to browse through, though I have no idea what the standards for ‘best’ are.
kievukraine.info/best_kiev.htm
The Kiev City Guide has the ‘best of’ list that is issued by the Kyiv Post every year. The only bad parts are that it only lists the top position and not the top three as the Kyiv Post does and they still have the 2004 information. I wish they would update it, buy maybe I will do it on my site for the 2006 version.
kyivpost.com/img/pdf/Best_Of_2005_web.pdf
The Kyiv Post does their “Best of” series every year and you can access their reports on their website. This report is for 2005. You can also get prior results. It is in a pdf format, which is a bit clumsy, but it is worth a look and it will also give you the runners-up.
